The quake was felt around the country with a magnitude of 6.0 in the Richter scale.

The Colombian Geological Service has reported of a "seismic event" at 2:21 pm, with a magnitude of 6.0 in the Richter scale.

The major earthquake struck in the Andean region with its epicenter in the municipality of Versalles in the Valle del Cauca department. Experts registered the epicenter  at 124 kilometers of depth, around 77 miles, and roughly 3760 km from Bogota, the Colombian capital.

The quake was felt around the country. People in different cities, such as Cali and Bogota, reported feeling it. Videos in social media are being posted under #Temblor, #Terremoto, #Sismo, pictuing store goods falling from shelves in local supermarkets. There have been no reports of casualties or major material damages.

The authorities of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGDR) continue to carry out surveys in the different municipalities, slight damages have been reported to some structures and facades of buildings until now.

This morning, the Geophysical Institute of Ecuador warned of an increase in seismic activity in the Chiles-Cerro Negro volcanic complex, in the border area with Colombia, which according to preliminary data could be linked to the telluric event of Valle del Cauca.
