The estimate decreased from 260 deaths of children under one year old to 157 in one year, according to the official estimate.
Child mortality dropped by 40 percent during the first trimester of 2019, compared with the same period last year, reported the country's Vice President Rosario Murillo on Tuesday.
She lamented "all these hate crimes and perversity that were carried out against our people," in 2018, adding that "they will not occur again this year."
"We will continue to promote health with prenatal attention programs."
Earlier this month, the minister also announced that 2019 has been a successful year for tackling HIV in the Central American country.
She announced that in the first few months of 2019, over 100,000 had been tested free of charge, which is 16 percent higher than at the same point in 2018.
