In their latest report, Chinese health authorities informed that 74,279 people have been infected by the disease and 2007 persons have died so far.

Seen from a temporary perspective, however, the outbreak control is yielding the expected results.

For 15 consecutive days, the number of new cases of infection outside Hubei province is decreasing day after day. Between Feb. 3 and Feb. 18, the number of new cases decreased from 890 to 56.

The NHC pointed out that local authorities are implementing area-specific actions whose purpose is twofold: to maintain the fight against the outbreak and resume the socioeconomic order.

Wuhan will continue to implement very rigorous measures as the situation remains critical in the epicenter city of the epidemic.

In view of this circumstance, President Xi Jinping has called for scientific and logistical support for medical teams in Hubei and Wuhan to ensure they can conduct their work timely and effectively,

So far, more than 30,000 medical workers from 29 provinces and military organizations have been dispatched to the region, as reported by CGTN on Wednesday.
