In addition to the deaths, 880 people have been evacuated from their homes due to the destruction of rainfall.
Among the deceased are three people, two of them minors, whose house was buried by a mudslide this morning. The event was registered in the Barrio El Calvario in the western department of Ahuachapán, more than 125 kilometers from San Salvador.
The head of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN)Fernando Lopez reported Monday at a press conference that the rains will continue for the rest of the week and are the result of the influence of a low pressure that is sustained in southern Guatemala.
He also pointed out that there is the probability of generating another system of low pressure on the Gulf of Mexico, which has “a high probability of developing as a tropical storm”, which “would have an indirect influence on the country generating more rain”.
López warned that “the more rain falls, the risk of landslides, floods and river overflows increases”.
