In the past 39 days, at least 27 Palestinians have lost their lives and dozens more have been injured due to attacks by the Israeli army in the city of Jenin and its refugee camp. This situation has generated an alarming humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by bombings and military operations that have devastated local infrastructure.
Recently, a shocking incident occurred when an Israeli soldier shot a doctor in the foot in the Al-Zahraa neighborhood. In another attack at the Jenin refugee camp, a woman was injured while trying to recover her belongings during a military assault. Additionally, Israeli forces fired upon a medical team attempting to provide first aid to the wounded.
The siege imposed by Israel has had devastating consequences for the daily lives of Jenin residents. According to the Wafa news agency, economic losses are estimated at approximately $5.5 million per day. The blockade of checkpoints around the city prevents Palestinians from the territories occupied in 1948—who used to significantly contribute to the local economy—from entering the area.
Israeli forces have also been accused of burning homes, destroying roads, and restricting residents’ access to their homes, leaving many families in extremely precarious conditions. Media coverage of the situation in Jenin has been severely limited; journalists have faced restrictions on accessing the refugee camp, making it difficult to document the abuses being committed.
Furthermore, Israeli troops have converted several homes into military posts, particularly those located near the camp. Water shortages persist in some localities as a result of destroyed essential infrastructure.
The international community watches with concern this humanitarian crisis in Jenin, where human rights violations continue to go inadequately documented and addressed. The situation demands an urgent response to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and restore their dignity and fundamental rights.
