The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency in Eastern Libya announced this Sunday the discovery of 30 bodies in a mass grave in the Kufra desert, marking the second such finding this week.
The agency’s president, Mohamed Ali al Fadil, reported via social media that search efforts are ongoing, and the total number of bodies could exceed 70. Authorities located the grave on Saturday night following the arrest of four suspects, including one Libyan national, involved in smuggling, murder, and kidnapping.

The Missing Migrants Project by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that, of the 965 deaths and disappearances recorded in Libya in 2024, more than 22% occurred on land routes, highlighting the dangers migrants face during their journey.
