Venezuela’s National Assembly Opens Its Regular Session on the Approval of the Bill Against Fascism

The first debate will focus on how to regulate social networks to avoid attacks that have disrupted the stability of some institutions of the Venezuelan state.
From the Federal Legislative Palace, the ordinary session of the National Assembly of Venezuela began on Tuesday, with the purpose of discussing the condemnation of cyberfascism against the people and the creation of a National Commission against Fascism, Hatred and Violence; and discuss for the second time the Law on Control, Regularization and Financing of Non-Governmental Organizations.

The first debate will focus on how social networks can be regulated in order to avoid attacks that have disrupted the stability of some institutions of the Venezuelan state, including the electoral power, that on July 28 suffered one of the cyber attacks. It is also estimated that Venezuelan institutions have been the target of more than 30 million attacks.
In opening remarks, the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, explained that “in view of the serious nature of the events of 28, 29, 30 and 31 July and because it was clear that not only one sector was responsible, that violence is always used to achieve its aims, but the intention is to distort the electoral result, Parliament proposed to adopt a package of laws accompanying the action of the national executive and the Attorney-General’s Office, for the purposes of enforcing respect for the election result and also for the purposes of defending citizens”.
Rodríguez also called the news construction that some media and agencies are doing repulsive, when they say that the protests after the elections of July 28 have left 25 dead in the country.
“The detail that remains to be said is that the 25 dead were men and women militants of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), militants of the Revolution; but this is forgotten by the agencies. It is our responsibility to make the truth known,” he said.
The president of the parliament ordered that “immediately, the process of consultations should be initiated so that it can be submitted to the second discussion and sanction by the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela”.
In April, Deputy Diosdado Cabello said that executive vice president Delcy Rodríguez introduced a law against fascism, neo-fascism and similar expressions, which was approved in the first discussion and consists of four chapters and 30 articles.
One of the articles in the bill relates to social networks, which have been used in recent weeks to promote hatred and destabilize the Venezuelan nation.
Cabello urged the deputies to participate with the people in the discussion of the project, to ensure the effectiveness of its subsequent implementation. In this sense, the call is to start the discussion on Wednesday, August 14, to return it to Parliament as soon as possible, for its approval.
The session also proposed a reform of Venezuela’s electoral laws so that no foreigner would ever take office in the country’s elections.
