Iranian diplomacy has warned that its country will use all necessary means for a strong and effective defence.
Following recent Israeli attacks on Iranian territory that killed four soldiers and one civilian on Saturday, Tehran has reaffirmed its right to self-defense and called on the United States to restrain its ally rather than urging Iran to show restraint.

President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran does not seek to enter a war with the Tel Aviv regime but defends its national right following the Israeli assault on Persian territory.
“Today, the world witnesses how the supporters of this occupying regime, led by the United States, claim to uphold human rights and freedom. Yet it remains silent in the face of the bloodshed of tens of thousands of women and children by this brutal regime,” said the Iranian president.
“Were these children terrorists? Is blocking food and medicine for the oppressed people of Gaza one of the principles of war and the civilized world?,” he added.
The Iranian government reiterated its right to retaliate against Israel after an Israeli air offensive, which was largely intercepted by Iranian defenses, left one civilian and four soldiers dead and caused damage in several strategic areas.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqai expressed that Iran’s response would depend on the nature of future attacks and emphasized that all necessary means would be used for a strong and effective defense.
Baqai also stated that, rather than expecting moderation from Iran, the U.S. should restrain its ally Israel, whose aggression and provocations have been encouraged by unconditional American support. This support, warned the diplomat, is a key factor in escalating regional tensions.
Saturday’s Israeli airstrike targeted multiple sites in the provinces of Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam. However, Iran’s Air Defense System managed to intercept most of the projectiles, minimizing impact. According to Iran’s General Staff, the offensive caused only limited damage, although the loss of four soldiers in this aggression was regretted.
Iran has also requested an urgent meeting at the United Nations Security Council to demand a clear condemnation of Israeli aggression. In its request, Iran invoked Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognizes the right of any nation to legitimate self-defense.
Numerous countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, and Switzerland, have voiced their opposition to Israeli actions and warned of potential consequences for regional stability.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi spoke with his British counterpart, David Lammy, reminding him that Tehran will not hesitate to exercise its right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. In response, Lammy urged all parties to exercise restraint to avoid further escalation in West Asia, warning that a regional conflict would have catastrophic consequences.
Meanwhile, Major General Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), issued a message warning Israel of the repercussions it will face for its “illegal and illegitimate” actions. Salami described the attack as a miscalculation by Israel and predicted severe consequences for the aggressor.
In a message addressed to the commander-in-chief of Iran’s army, Major General Seyed Abdul Rahim Mousavi, General Salami paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, highlighting their sacrifice as an act of national and values-based defense. He also emphasized that Iranian forces would remain on high alert, monitoring any hostile movements.
