More than 30 people, including children, were killed in an Israeli shelling of a residential complex in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, on Saturday, local media reported.

The attack targeted a block of five houses in a western neighbourhood of Beit Lahia, where at least 30 people were killed, according to local sources quoted by the Palestinian news agency Wafa, while Al Jazeera said 35 people had been killed.
In Beit Lahia, local media reports indicate that there are numerous calls to rescue the dead, wounded and those still trapped in the rubble, but the lack of ambulances and the Israeli blockade of the areas is complicating the operation.
On Saturday, the authorities said that the Indonesian hospitals and Kamal Adwan are not functioning because of the collapse of the health system.
At least 44 health workers and several patients were detained by Israeli forces after the siege launched yesterday, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for the Middle East, Hanan Balkhy.
In the past two days, Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip have killed 77 people and caused 289 injuries, figures that do not include data from hospitals in the northern enclave, subjected to this harsh offensive.
Since the war began, more than a year ago, 42,924 people have been killed and over 100,800 injured in the devastated Palestinian enclave, according to data from Gaza hospitals.
