Activity of the Argentine SMEs Industry Fell by 3.7% Year-On-Year in November

The activity of manufacturing industry Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Argentina last November recorded a fall of 3.7% compared to the same month last year, but advanced 3.9% compared to last October, reported this Sunday sectoral sources.

According to a report by the Argentine Confederation of Medium-Sized Enterprises (CAME), of the six sectors considered in the measurement, only two improved their activity year on year and, according to the report, In the first 11 months of the year, the SME industry has experienced a 13.6% decline.
“In the year-to-date, all sectors showed declines. The sector with the greatest shrinkage was “Chemicals and plastics” (-17%), followed by “Paper and printing” (-15.7%) and “Food and beverages” (-15%),” CAME said.
The Confederation stated that during the first eleven months of this year, a fall of 15% per annum was recorded, while the industries operated with 65.6% of their installed capacity in the eleventh month of the year, 2.6 points above October.
In the sector of Textiles and clothing, the report details that production rose 1.7% per year in November and 1.8% compared to October. For the first eleven months of the year, it recorded a fall of 6.4%, and that textile industries operated with 59.6% of their installed capacity, 1.8 points higher than in October.
In November, the wood and furniture sector grew 6.4% per annum at constant prices, and 6.1% in the seasonally adjusted monthly comparison. In the period january-november activity has fallen 10.5% compared to same months of last year, according to CAME.
On the other hand, Metal, machinery and equipment, and transportation material had an annual contraction of 6.1% in November, at constant prices and grew 3.3% in the monthly comparison. For the first eleven months of the year, it accumulated a 13.8% drop compared to the same months in 2023. Industries operated at 60.9% of their installed capacity, 1.6 points higher than in October.
