Cuba and Bolivia Are Honored to Join BRICS as Partner Countries
The Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America-Treaty on Trade of Peoples (ALBA-TCP) has issued a statement expressing its satisfaction with the recent entry of the Republic of Cuba and the Plurinational State of Bolivia into the BRICS bloc as partners. However, it also regrets that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has been prevented from joining the Committee.
For ALBA-TCP, the inclusion of Cuba and Bolivia in BRICS is a cause for celebration, as it reaffirms these countries’ commitment to constructing a new world order. According to the statement, this membership “constitutes a platform that emerges with increasing strength to work on strengthening multilateralism for a more democratic world order.” This approach aligns with the principles that have guided the Alliance since its inception two decades ago.
The communiqué also recalls that these objectives coincide with the “principles, priorities, and strategic objectives” that gave rise to ALBA-TCP, inspired by the legacy of Commanders Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, as well as by the dreams of the independence heroes of Latin America and the Caribbean. This historical context underscores the importance of the political and social environment in which these partnerships develop.
Despite the optimism regarding membership, ALBA-TCP has expressed concern over the situation in Venezuela. In its statement, it laments that “at this crucial moment for the future of the world, a country has broken the consensus in this space of cooperation to exclude sister countries,” which has temporarily hindered Venezuela’s entry into the BRICS bloc. ALBA-TCP reaffirms its commitment to inclusion and regional cooperation.
The organization is “convinced of the need to overcome exclusions” and will continue advocating for Venezuela’s entry into the BRICS group. It emphasizes that Venezuela possesses “the necessary material conditions to promote BRICS in the region” and shares historical values that foster solidarity and renewed multilateralism.
Furthermore, ALBA-TCP demands “the cessation of aggression against Venezuela” and insists on respect for its sovereign right to be a key player in this emerging multipolar world. This call reflects not only a political stance but also a profound desire for a more just and equitable international environment.
In conclusion, the entry of Cuba and Bolivia into BRICS is viewed as a victory for ALBA-TCP and its ideals. As these countries move toward greater international cooperation, the Bolivarian Alliance continues to advocate for a future where all its members can fully participate in global decisions, thereby promoting a more inclusive and supportive world order.
