In a statement issued this Wednesday, the organization warns that «admitting foreign military bases in the territories of countries of Our America represents a threat to peace and stability of the entire region, undermining agreements for peaceful coexistence between states».

The text also states that they promote «foreign interference, facilitating the plundering of natural resources, the control of governments and the management of illegal markets in the countries that host them».

«The Bolivarian Alliance has repeatedly denounced the use of the simulated fight against drug trafficking and transnational organized crime as a pretext to open the way for interference in the internal affairs of States, Accordingly, it endorses the establishment of military bases on the continent with all the dangers and associated risks that this entails», the document argues.

The communiqué further emphasizes that Latin America and the Caribbean has proclaimed itself as a Zone of Peace, and the ALBA-TCP countries strongly support this commitment.

Despite the concern, ALBA-TCP relies on the conscience of the Ecuadorian people to preserve its sovereignty and avoid the installation of military bases in the country.
