This Alliance is a space where solidarity prevails over profit, Venezuelan President Maduro pointed out.
Through solidarity, the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) has solidified cooperation projects in key areas such as education, health, and the economy, while strengthening its commitment to regional integration and multilateralism for the future.

Two decades after its creation, ALBA-TCP has achieved numerous milestones stemming from solidarity among nations, going beyond mere commercial ties. Today, the alliance remains a transformative project for Latin America and the Caribbean and has set new short-, medium-, and long-term goals.
Among its most notable initiatives is the declaration of Venezuela, Bolivia, and Nicaragua as “Territories Free of Illiteracy,” a goal achieved through educational programs like the “Yes, I Can” method, which has transformed the lives of millions by enabling access to written information.
Similarly, the Miracle Mission, a humanitarian project aimed at providing free surgeries for individuals with various eye conditions, has restored sight to more than 5 million patients, prioritizing those from low-income backgrounds who previously lacked access to ophthalmological services.
In social inclusion, the Psychosocial Genetic Clinical Study of People with Disabilities has identified and assisted over one million vulnerable individuals, actively integrating them into society. The training of community doctors at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM), with campuses in Cuba and Venezuela, reinforces a humanistic and solidarity-driven approach to healthcare.
In the field of international economics, ALBA-TCP has promoted the creation of a space of sovereignty and solidarity through the Peoples’ Trade Treaty, the ALBA Bank, and the Regional Unified Compensation System (SUCRE). These initiatives aim to strengthen fair trade, reduce dependency on external markets, and create alternatives to the prevailing neoliberal model.
One of ALBA-TCP’s most transformative actions was Petrocaribe, a project that ensured energy supplies to Caribbean nations under solidarity-based terms, enabling the development of key infrastructure that improved the quality of life for millions. This model has become a benchmark for emerging economies seeking to overcome the asymmetrical structures of the global market.
At the ALBA-TCP summit held in April, member countries approved the “2030 Agenda,” which outlines seven lines of action to achieve dynamic, complementary, and fair commercial relations.
These lines include: the creation of an ALBA-TCP cooperation and development agency; the relaunch of Petrocaribe; the approval of a food plan; the signing and definitive adoption of the Peoples’ Trade Treaty; a special program for scientific, cultural, communicational, and academic development; the relaunch of the ALBA Health plan; and the creation of an ALBA agency for mitigating the impacts of climate change.
ALBA-TCP also aims to strengthen its role on the international stage by establishing alliances with economic blocs such as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).
During the 2024 BRICS summit in Kazan, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Cuba highlighted their commitment to multilateralism and their support for a multipolar world.
ALBA-TCP Secretary Jorge Arreaza described this relationship as a “win-win” partnership, emphasizing that both ALBA-TCP and BRICS share principles of sovereignty, complementarity, and sustainable development.
“ALBA-TCP is a beacon of hope for the Global South. It is a space where solidarity prevails over profit,” Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated, emphasizing that ALBA-TCP leaders have reiterated their commitment to defending peace, sovereignty, and the well-being of their peoples.
