ALBA-TCP Ministers Commit to Independent Connectivity Systems

Jorge Arreaza, Secretary General of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), affirmed on Friday the firm resolve of the bloc’s transport ministers to establish their own connectivity networks. This initiative aims to safeguard the sovereignty of member nations, reducing reliance on external systems that could compromise regional autonomy.

“Our Own Networks to Unite Peoples and Boost Production”

Arreaza emphasized that ministers are determined to create independent connectivity infrastructure, stating, “In this new phase, we are committed to building our own networks—free from external dependence—to bring our peoples closer and link our productive chains.” This vision aligns with the ALBA-TCP’s foundational principles of regional integration and collective economic strength, championed by leaders like Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez.

Air and Maritime Links Key to Economic Development

The Venezuelan official highlighted the critical role of sovereign air and maritime connectivity in enhancing mobility and economic growth across the bloc. He referenced a proposal by St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves to create an “ALBA-TCP fleet”—a strategic move to overcome barriers in trade and regional exchange.

Arreaza Condemns US Aggression Against Petrocaribe

Arreaza denounced U.S. imperialist attacks on Petrocaribe, criticizing efforts to undermine Cuba’s humanitarian missions, including the deployment of doctors and specialists abroad. Despite these challenges, he noted Petrocaribe’s ongoing revival as a vital logistics hub for oil-derived product storage and distribution.

ALBA-TCP Charts Path Toward Unified Sovereignty

Arreaza’s remarks underscore ALBA-TCP’s renewed dedication to regional sovereignty and unity. By advancing independent connectivity and revitalizing Petrocaribe, the bloc aims to foster a future where Latin American and Caribbean nations can collectively counter external pressures and pursue shared development.
