Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil highlighted that one of the main topics on the summit’s agenda will be support for the Supreme Justice Court’s ruling that reaffirmed the legitimacy of the elections held on July 28, in which President Nicolas Maduro was re-elected for the 2025-2031 term.
“We have noted excessive foreign interference and attempts to undermine Venezuela’s national sovereignty, especially coming from the U.S. and Europe. The ALBA-TCP has taken a very clear position in defense of the principles of integrity, non-interference, and respect for internal affairs,” he pointed out.
The Venezuelan diplomat also recalled that over 60 countries and several international organizations have sent their congratulations to President Maduro for his overwhelming and indisputable electoral victory.
“The majority opinion around the world is that Venezuela’s issues should be resolved within Venezuela. There is a global consensus on this,” Gil asserted, highlighting the stance of the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, who demanded that the electoral results in Venezuela be respected.
On Friday, August 23, the ALBA-TCP member states issued a declaration welcoming the Supreme Justice Court’s decision that certified the electoral results, emphasizing that its decision is an irrefutable evidence of Venezuelan institutionalism.
“The ALBA-TCP applauds the important work of the Supreme Justice Court, which has shown its commitment to bringing peace and tranquility to the Venezuelan people,” their statement said, reaffirming support for the Bolivarian government and people.
On Monday, the ALBA-TCP will also address issues related to the 2030 Agenda, which is designed to strengthen cooperation among member countries. This extraordinary summit will provide a key platform for the ALBA-TCP to reaffirm its commitment to the fundamental principles of the organization, sending a clear message to the world about unity and resistance in the face of foreign pressures.
Currently, the ALBA-TCP is composed of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Lucia.
