Amazon Workers Across the U.S. Strike for Fair Wages and Safe Working Conditions

On Thursday, drivers and warehouse workers at Amazon across the United States went on strike due to the employer’s refusal to meet their demands for fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect in the workplace.

The strike has been organized by the Teamsters union, which has described it as the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history. Protests are set to take place at seven locations near major delivery centers in cities such as New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Organizers claim that Amazon forced this strike by refusing to comply with labor laws and negotiate with the thousands of workers who have joined the Teamsters union. They are demanding that the company reach a collective bargaining agreement with unionized workers for better wages, benefits, safety measures, and other working conditions.
“Now, Teamsters from Amazon facilities nationwide will be on strike, including primary picket lines at hundreds of Amazon logistics centers across the country,” stated the union on social media platform X.
Workers in Atlanta, Georgia, have joined the Teamsters’ strike to demand that the employer comply with labor laws and negotiate with nearly 10,000 workers. Sean M. O’Brien, General President of the Teamsters, expressed that “Amazon does not respect the workers who have made it the successful company it is today, and the Teamsters will hold them accountable.”
The Teamsters represent 1.4 million men and women working in virtually every occupation across the United States and Canada, including many in the construction industry. Two-thirds of Teamster members work in one of five divisions: warehousing, package delivery, freight transport, public employees, and industrial trades. The public employees sector is currently the fastest-growing division within the union.
