The Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, has highlighted the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Malaria Control 2021-2025 as a key element in the results achieved.
On Wednesday, official sources stated that Angola shows a reduction in the malaria mortality rate from 35 deaths per 100,000 population in 2022 to 20 deaths per 100,000 population in the first half of 2024.

The disease, considered the leading cause of death in the country, with around 42 percent, is the target of actions such as the Zero Malaria Starts With Me campaign, launched in November last year by the Ministry of Health (Minsa).
The aim of the initiative is to reinforce the fight against the disease through community action, as one of the great challenges in tackling it is the high level of transmission, which is due to factors such as the resistance of the transmitting agents to insecticides and the threat of climate change.

This program contributes to the reduction of the disease through early diagnosis and treatment, the expansion of services, the improvement of the information system for the population and the continuous training of health and technical personnel involved in all areas of the fight.
The country is also preparing for the introduction of a malaria vaccine for children aged zero to five years, an age group that is highly affected by malaria, which tends to have greater complications at this age.
Health authorities hope that the immunogen will help reduce mortality, as has been shown in other regions.
