On Tuesday, the Arab League held an extraordinary summit in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, where an ambitious reconstruction plan for the Gaza Strip, devastated by the recent conflict with Israel, was adopted. The meeting was attended by representatives from the United Nations, the European Union, and the African Union, underscoring the global significance and urgency of the issue.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced during the closing session that the plan, presented by Egypt, involves a total investment of $53 billion over a five-year period. The effort will begin with a six-month “early recovery” phase, during which $3 billion will be allocated for initial debris removal and the preparation of seven zones to temporarily house over 1.5 million Palestinians.

The summit marks a significant step toward the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, though the path ahead remains fraught with challenges.
