Argentine Photographer Injured by Police Shows Slight Signs of Improvement

On March 12, Pablo Grillo was attacked while covering the protests in support of retirees in Buenos Aires.
On Wednesday, Pablo Grillo, the photographer who was shot in the skull with a tear gas canister by the Argentine police, made slight movements in his hands and legs, although he remains in critical condition.

“We saw him looking better, with some movement in his hands and legs. We left feeling more hopeful,” said his father, Fabian, as reported by the newspaper Pagina 12.
On March 12, the young Argentine was injured while covering the protests in support of retirees in Buenos Aires. The Grillo family criticized Security Minister Patricia Bullrich, who, instead of prosecuting those responsible, continues to justify the actions of the police during the protests.
The available footage, however, allows for the identification of the officer who aimed at Pablo, and several expert reports indicate that the shot was straight and directly targeted at his head.
“They are used to impunity and lies, while the media covers up their deceptions,” explained Fabian Grillo, who reaffirmed his support for the demands of Argentine retirees.
On Tuesday, the Association of Press Photographers (ARGRA) and the Buenos Aires Press Union (SIPREBA) called on Argentines to a solidarity gathering at the doors of Ramos Mejia Hospital, where the young photographer Pablo remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Photographers, journalists, and citizens gathered to demand justice and respect for the rights of media workers. They emphasized the need to protect journalistic work during times of political tension.
Meanwhile, several legal organizations have approached the Grillo family to offer their services and initiate legal proceedings. Although Pablo’s father has not yet filed a formal complaint, the judicial path to hold those responsible accountable will be determined in the coming hours.
