More workers and football fans are getting ready to accompany the pensioners’ Wednesday march in Buenos Aires.
On Wednesday, the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT) and the General Union of Transport Workers’ Associations (UGATT) will participate in the march in support of retirees.

The transport unions decided to accompany and support the retirees’ demands in response to the austerity policies implemented by the national government, which have resulted in cuts and the removal of acquired rights.
For weeks, retirees have been leading a march every Wednesday around the National Congress to demand medication, adequate pensions, and respect for other basic rights necessary to live with dignity.
The protest is generating anticipation as it is also expected to include the participation of fans from a dozen local soccer teams. These groups of citizens have shown solidarity with retirees after the far-right government of President Javier Milei ordered security forces to crack down on them last week.
On Tuesday, the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) will also hold a meeting that could lead to an expansion in the number of unions mobilizing in support of Argentine retirees.
So far, the Single Union of Argentine Tire Workers (SUTNA) has already announced that it will join the retirees’ march and has challenged the country’s main labor federation to call for a general strike on Friday.
“That day, we will mobilize to Congress to defend the retirees’ struggle and begin a plan of action until all austerity measures are defeated,” the union said.
