His impeachment is the only way to prevent the degradation and corruption of democratic institutions in Argentina, CTAs stated.

On Saturday, the Argentine Workers’ Central (CTA-T) and the Autonomous Argentine Workers’ Central (CTA-A) expressed their support for the impeachment process against President Javier Milei due to his involvement in a cryptocurrency pyramid scam.

“From the CTAs, we express our absolute condemnation of the inadmissible and unprecedented conduct of the Argentine president. This is an event of unprecedented gravity: the participation of a head of state, in his institutional role and with the support of official communications, in promoting a cryptocurrency scam that harmed hundreds of thousands of people to benefit a small group of criminals,” CTA-T Secretary Hugo Yasky and CTA-A Secretary Hugo Godoy stated in a joint communique.

“We express our support for the decision of the lawmakers from the Union por la Patria bloc and the socialist lawmakers from Santa Fe to push for impeachment proceedings against President Milei for his participation in a pyramid scheme linked to the promotion of a baseless cryptocurrency. We also support other impeachment requests previously submitted by various public figures,” they added.

“We urge the rest of the legislative blocs to enable this procedure, as it is the only way to prevent the degradation and corruption of democratic institutions in Argentina,” the union leaders pointed out.

“It is shameful and extremely serious that the highest authority of our country has become a global trending topic as the main promoter of a scam that has harmed not only Argentine citizens but also people from other countries around the world,” they concluded.

On Friday, using social media, Milei promoted a digital currency called $LIBRA, claiming that this financial asset aimed to “incentivize the growth of the Argentine economy by funding small businesses and startups.”

Five hours after the launch of this currency, its value plummeted to almost zero, causing significant losses for investors. At the time of the price drop, approximately US$4.5 billion had been invested in $LIBRA.

Following the massive collapse, Milei deleted the tweets related to the matter, distanced himself from the scam, and ordered the intervention of the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) and the creation of an investigative unit to clarify what had happened.

Nevertheless, financial experts have confirmed that the actions of the Argentine president were indeed aimed at encouraging the acquisition of a cryptocurrency that had no real backing.
