In a message on its social media, the Sudanese Army stated that “they cleared the entire territory of the homeland from the FAR militia”; an announcement that was published accompanied by videos shared by officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces confirming their control over the town.

The chairman of the Sovereign Council and commander-in-chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdelfatah al Burhan, travelled to Sinja to personally congratulate the troops who took control of the city on the operation.

Al Burhan said in a statement by the Council that they were dedicating this “great victory” to the Sudanese people who “suffered murder, displacement, oppression, looting and all kinds of fires and rapes by the militia”.

Previously, in September, the regular army took control of Ruru and Jagalni, two areas in the Blue Nile region in the south-east of the country, and expelled the remnants of the FAR after intense fighting.

The war broke out on 15 April 2023 due to disagreement between the Army and the FAR over the inclusion of paramilitaries in power following the 2021 coup, It ended the attempt to democratize the country after the overthrow of former president Omar al Bashir in 2019.

Since the outbreak of the conflict, tens of thousands of people have died and more than 11 million have been forced to leave their homes, making Sudan the scene of the worst displacement crisis in the world, according to the UN.
