“This matter was presented to the Government of the Bahamas but was thoroughly reviewed and firmly rejected by the Prime Minister,” stated an official communique.

The Bahamas “simply does not have the resources to accommodate such a request,” and the Government’s priorities remain focused on “addressing the concerns of the Bahamian people,” it added.

“Since the Prime Minister rejected this proposal, there have been no further contacts or discussions with Trump’s transition team or any other entity regarding this matter,” the Bahamian government added.

In recent months, Trump has promised to carry out the largest deportation of migrants in U.S. history once he takes office as president.

“The president-elect based his successful White House run on vicious anti-immigrant rhetoric, blaming them for a supposed national crime wave and promising to carry out mass deportations. Trump’s team made no immediate comment about the Bahamas’ rejection of the proposal,” The Guardian reported.

Currently, the Republican politician is compiling a list of countries to which migrants could be deported if their home countries refuse to accept them. According to press reports, other Caribbean countries cited on this list include the Turks and Caicos Islands, Panama, and Grenada.
