The Bolivian chapter of the Antifascist International has issued a strong statement condemning “the criminalization of Venezuelan migrants by the United States.” This declaration comes in response to recent actions by former President Donald Trump, who has sought to justify the deportation of Venezuelan migrants to prisons built by Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, described as “repressive.”

The statement highlights that deportations carried out by the Trump administration since he took office have been “surprisingly humiliating and degrading.” It notes that many migrants have been “caught on the streets, at workplaces, and in their homes,” only to be expelled to their countries of origin “without any prior information or warning.”

Furthermore, the statement criticizes that deportations are now being conducted to “concentration centers” in El Salvador, a country with a history of “revolutionary struggles.” However, it denounces that President Bukele boasts of having “destroyed criminal gangs by imprisoning anyone, without any judicial or administrative process.” In this regard, the Bolivian chapter expresses its rejection of the Salvadoran leader’s governance measures and methods.

The statement also addresses the reasons behind the exodus of thousands of Venezuelans, asserting that this phenomenon is the result of “coercion, the use of Venezuelan funds deposited in international banks, and the economic blockade” imposed by the U.S. and the international financial system. These actions, according to the text, aim to “strangle the Bolivarian revolutionary process” and generate popular backlash against Venezuelan leaders.

Finally, the Bolivian chapter of the Antifascist International joins the protests of the Venezuelan government and people, calling on international organizations to take action to sanction the “violation of human rights” perpetuated by the U.S. against migrants, particularly Venezuelans, who are labeled as criminals “simply for being so.”
