Bolivian Social Organizations March in Defense of Democracy

They aim to highlight the people’s strength and demand respect for their vote.
From the early hours of Friday, thousands of citizens began a march in support of the government of President Luis Arce and Bolivian democracy.

They reject attempts to disrupt the constitutional order through economic destabilization and denounce the blockades that the political opposition carries out in the Legislative Assembly against policies favorable to workers.
The march started from the cities of El Alto and La Paz and is heading towards Murillo Square, a place in downtown La Paz that symbolizes political power in this Andean country.
“Over 100 unions and social organizations announced their massive presence in the march for democracy and unity of Bolivia, which aims to highlight the people’s strength and demand respect for their vote,” said Fidel Surco, the secretary of international relations of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS).
“We are not going to allow more coups. We cannot go back to the old times,” said Esteban Alavi, a member of the Syndical Confederation of Intercultural Communities of Bolivia (CSCIOB).
“We are going to defend democracy and lithium and uphold the constitution for our rights,” said Guillermina Kuno, leader of the Confederation of Indigenous Women Bartolina Sisa (CNMCIOB).
Social organizations from 16 districts of the cruceña region are also present in the march, according to Miguel Delgadillo, the president of the MAS Urban Regional.
