Brazil: Declare Three Days of Official Mourning for Accident of the Plane in Sao Paulo

The Prefecture announced that three days of official mourning are declared in memory of the victims.

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, decreed this Friday official duel for three days, for the death of 61 people who were traveling on board the plane damaged in the early afternoon in the municipality of Vinhedo, in the interior of the state of São Paulo.

«I have declared official mourning throughout the country for a period of three days from the date of publication of this decree in sign of sorrow for the victims of the air crash», highlights the official statement.

Previously, the Vinhedo Prefecture had confirmed the death of all persons travelling on board the plane.

The Prefecture announced in an official statement that three days of official mourning for the victims will be declared.

The text reads,
In memory of the 61 victims of the tragic accident in Vinhedo, we have declared 3 days of official mourning in the country.

«The bodies of the victims are being taken to the IML of Sao Paulo for legal proceedings», details the text, where it recognizes the work of the local authorities and police since the event was known.

«The fire hotspots of greater risks have been controlled, the main objective, from the beginning, was to ensure the safety of all in the locality and attend to possible victims, with the Holy House of Vinhedo, the Holy House of Valinhos and the Hospital Galileo prepared to offer all help», underlines the text.

The Prefecture also highlights the work of social workers, psychologists and members of the Civil Defence who offer assistance to victims’ families.

«In this moment of deep pain, we express our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims», he concludes.

For its part, the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) of the South American country deeply regretted «the accident occurred with the aircraft Voepass this Friday 9 August».

In this respect, ANAC specified that it monitors the care provided by the company to victims and their families, as well as taking the necessary measures to investigate the situation of the aircraft and crew».

The investigation into what happened is carried out by the Centre for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA).

In the damaged aircraft, model ATR-72, 58 passengers and four crew members were travelling from Cascavel (Paraná) to Guarulhos (Sao Paulo).
