Brazil To Guard the Embassies of Argentina and Peru in Venezuela

This decision was taken after the breakdown of relations between Venezuela and the two South American countries.
On Monday, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil confirmed that Brazil has assumed the representation of the interests of Argentina and Peru in Venezuela, following the breaking of diplomatic relations with those countries.

Through a note published on social media, Gil explained that Brasilia and Caracas reached an agreement for Brazilian diplomats to guard the assets and archives of the diplomatic missions of Argentina and Peru.
“The decision was made taking into account the principles and purposes of cooperation and mutual respect that govern the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963,” the Venezuelan diplomat explained.
The agreement also specifies that, through its embassy in Caracas, Brazil will represent the interests of Peru and Argentina and their citizens as of August 1, 2024.
A week ago, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s government demanded the immediate withdrawal of the diplomatic corps of Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Uruguay.
This request was framed in the rejection of the “interventionist actions and statements” made by officials of those countries regarding the Venezuelan presidential elections held on July 28.
In this event, the candidate of the Great Patriotic Pole, President Maduro, was reelected with 51.95 percent of the votes, while far-right candidate Edmundo Gonzalez came obtained 43.18 percent.
