He intends to negotiate reduced tariffs on Brazilian exports.
On Wednesday night, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will travel to Washington to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump. Their meeting will be “less formal” than a traditional bilateral reunion, focusing on economic and security issues.

The two leaders will discuss bilateral relations and the current international situation, since in recent weeks, they have expressed differing positions on Venezuela, Cuba, Gaza, and Iran.
Lula intends to negotiate reduced tariffs on Brazilian exports, agreements on rare earth minerals, and cooperation against organized crime. These points are strategic for sectors such as the automotive and metallurgical industries.
Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin said that they expect progress in the tariff review and emphasized the importance of controlling financial flows and criminal networks.
The visit comes amid recent diplomatic tensions: Washington expelled a Brazilian police officer in Miami, and Brazil responded by withdrawing the credentials of a U.S. official in Brasilia.
The trip, initially scheduled for March, was postponed without explanation. It adds to previous frictions, such as Brazil’s refusal to grant a visa to an advisor linked to Trump.
