The peoples of the South need to create an international payment system that eliminates economic aggressions, he pointed out.
On Thursday, while participating in the 16th BRICS Summit, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated that “a new world has been born,” noting that the current United Nations system is dying in the face of the genocide that Israel is committing against the Palestinian people.

The Bolivarian leader began his speech by congratulating President Vladimir Putin for the inclusive, unifying leadership role Russia has played in organizing this successful summit.
“The aspiration for a different world is as old as humanity. After World War II, the configuration of the United Nations system focused the efforts of all powers and all peoples. And indeed, a system was established that created great hope and laid the foundations for international law,” Maduro stated.
“Currently, however, a new era has emerged, and new superpowers have arisen, as well as countries like Venezuela or regions like Latin America and the Caribbean, which modestly aspire to have their right to independence, future, and development respected,” he emphasized.
“BRICS has brought new paradigms to the global agenda. I highlight two key elements: the need for a new economic agenda with practical solutions to international trade issues and monetary exchange,” Maduro said, stressing that “a new global monetary system is necessary.”
“It’s not about making small reforms to the international monetary and financial system, which seems to resist reforms because colonial powers want to reimpose their hegemony through a dominant currency, debt, or the imposition of economic conditions.”
Maduro expressed that Venezuela “welcomes and insists” on the need to take bolder steps in the consolidation of the BRICS New Development Bank “to access investments and advance toward a new international payment system that replaces those that seem to be used as weapons for aggression.”
“A basket of currencies is necessary, combining the strong currencies of the superpowers with the right to have our own currency. In each of our countries, we must seek practical solutions to the problems of developing a new inclusive economy that incorporates independent countries aspiring to dignity and social happiness,” Maduro stated.
The Bolivarian leader called for a refoundation of the United Nations system, lamenting that this organization is incapable of doing anything to end the daily aggressions committed by the Israeli regime against Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip.
“A new world is possible. We believe that this new world has already been born. BRICS is the epicenter of the birth and historic emergence of a new world, with deeply human values and principles,” Maduro said, reminding that he told President Putin that Venezuela is part of the BRICS family.
“I appreciate the invitation extended to me. This is the first time a Venezuelan president has attended a BRICS Summit. We apply the principles of BRICS with conviction.”
“As our commander Hugo Chavez used to say, the era of that balanced, multipolar, and multicentric world has arrived. BRICS can count on the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and all the revolutionary strength of our historical project,” he concluded.
