‘Israel’s aggressive stance has far exceeded all limits. The Palestinian people are facing genocide in Gaza,’ he said.

On Thursday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the countries participating in the 16th BRICS Summit to support a Turkish initiative at the United Nations to halt arms sales to Israel.

“Israel’s aggressive stance has far exceeded all limits. The Palestinian people are facing genocide in Gaza. Ignoring this humanitarian tragedy unfolding in the 21st century will not absolve anyone of their responsibility,” he said.

Erdogan urged countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to take that step and expressed confidence in receiving the support of the states participating in the meeting for his initiative to stop arms sales to Israel.

“We have launched an initiative at the United Nations to stop the sale of arms to Israel. I trust that you, our friends, will support us on this matter,” the Turkish president stated.

Erdogan stressed that “peace and development” cannot be discussed while the conflict and bloodshed in the Middle East continue. During his speech, Erdogan criticized the current international political mechanisms, established after World War II, arguing that they no longer meet global expectations.

“Türkiye continues to uphold that a more just world is possible,” the Turkish leader declared, emphasizing the importance of finding collective solutions to common problems and advocating for more equitable global development.

He also took the opportunity to thank the international community for the support received following Wednesday’s attack in Ankara against a Turkish defense industry facility, which resulted in five deaths.
