Indigenous and social organizations ‘won’t give a single vote’ to President Noboa, who is seeking re-election in April.
On Thursday, Citizen Revolution presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez thanked the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) for the support it granted her ahead of the second round of elections, which will take place on April 13.

Previously, at the conclusion of a massive public assembly on Wednesday, former presidential candidate Leonidas Iza stated that his organization would not give a single vote to right-wing President Daniel Noboa, who is seeking re-election for the 2025-2029 term. CONAIE and 75 social organizations agreed to support the Citizen Revolution candidate to strengthen the left-wing movement.
“The path of unity is the one we will walk together for the life of our nation. As a woman and as a rural coastal farmer, I deeply appreciate the support expressed by CONAIE and all social organizations, which represent the plurinationality and interculturality of our peoples and have spoken out with the dignity and urgency that our country demands,” Gonzalez said in a statement posted on social media.
“They are taking a historic step with their firm intention to build a project that prioritizes human beings, dignity, social justice, and respect for our fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the law,” she added.
Former presidential candidate Iza, who obtained 5.25% of the votes in the first round as a candidate for Pachakutik, asked Gonzalez to take a stance on a set of public policies that the Indigenous movement’s grassroots and social organizations demand be incorporated into her administration.
Among these demands is an explicit commitment to preventing both the expansion of oil exploitation in the Ecuadorian Amazon and the establishment of large-scale open-pit mining. Regarding these demands, Gonzalez stated the following:
“I fully assume the responsibility of building a programmatic agenda that promotes better days for Ecuador. Furthermore, I am convinced that this path will be much broader and will invite all sectors that make up our country to move forward together without leaving anyone behind,” she said.
“I am completely convinced that our commonalities are much greater than our differences. Now more than ever, I believe that soon the days of fear will turn into days of hope. Polarization and hatred will become into unity, and lies will turn into truth.”
“We will leave behind indifference and neglect and make way for the peace and collective well-being that all Ecuadorians long for, integrating ourselves into the world and the international community. Our struggle is for life!” Gonzalez stressed.
