Cordero described the current state of the judicial system as ‘difficult, uncomfortable and pitiful’.

The reform bill will be unveiled in the first half of October and aims to prevent conflicts of interest and influence peddling.

Our democracy needs protection and strengthening, and the history of corruption and serious crimes threatens it. For the @GobiernodeChile it is not enough to point out the problem, we must take action on the matter, that is why we are going to modernize our legislation to be more effective in detecting, prosecuting and punishing crimes in the context of conflicts of interest and influence peddling.

Meanwhile, MPs Daniel Manouchehri and Daniella Cicardini, of the Socialist Party, filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office asking for an investigation into recent acts of corruption.

‘We believe that there may be very serious crimes,’ said Manouchehri, mentioning among them a twisted administration of justice, lack of probity and bribery.

According to the MP, acts like these explain why people feel that there is one justice for the rich and another for the poor.

‘We think this is just the tip of the iceberg,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Cicardini recalled that bribes were also paid to officials working in the Internal Revenue Service and the General Treasury of the Republic.

‘Therefore, we believe that this network has been so wide that even the political power is not exempt,’ she said.
