“The synthesis we have made today with total conviction, thinking that it is a qualitative contribution to the space of presidential primary candidacies, which has already appointed four other parties,” said the party president, Lautaro Carmona.
With the appointment of the Communists, all parties in the Chilean government coalition, except the Socialist Party (PS), have already proclaimed their presidential candidates, who will fight in primaries on June 29.
On Thursday, the president Gabriel Boric’s Frente Amplio party, proclaimed Gonzalo Winter, representative of district no. 10 of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, as its presidential letter, while the centre forces defined their candidates on 15 March.
On the other hand, the center-left will contest the presidential race for the former Interior Minister, Carolina Tohá, who resigned on March 4 to begin her way to La Moneda presidential palace.
For its part, the far-right is split in the upcoming presidential elections with three candidates for the first time: José Antonio Kast, Johannes Kaiser and a representative of the Christian Social Party, rejecting the idea of holding primaries.
Meanwhile, the traditional right-wing, grouped in Chile Vamos, has proclaimed Evelyn Matthei as its candidate, advocating for the unity of the sector, including the ultra-right, to compete against progressivism, Although Kast has confirmed his direct participation in the first round.
