“All parties should respect the choice made by the Venezuelan people and respect Venezuela’s right to choose its own development path. The Venezuelan government and people are capable of handling their domestic affairs,” Lin said during a press conference in Beijing.

The spokesperson’s statement, which expresses China’s commitment to respecting Venezuela’s sovereignty and self-determination, was shared by Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil on social media.

Earlier, on July 30, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on his victory in the July 28 election, highlighting his leadership in pursuing a development path that aligns with the national conditions of his country.

Xi praised the “remarkable achievements in national construction” accomplished under Maduro’s leadership and reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to bilateral cooperation after the Venezuelan National Electoral Council determined that the Bolivarian leader had won the presidential election.

“China and Venezuela are mutual trust friends and joint development partners,” said the Chinese president, expressing his willingness to work alongside Maduro to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Xi also highlighted China’s support for Venezuela’s efforts to “maintain its national sovereignty, national dignity, and social stability, as well as its just struggle against external interference.”
