China has opened its first testing and verification center for large-scale AI models in medicine, located in Shanghai.
This center, inaugurated last Friday by the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, aims to promote the application of advanced technologies in the medical field, bridging the gap between training, evaluation, and practical use of these models.
The center will be supported by 12 leading health institutions in the city, which will serve as the initial verification units.
These institutions will evaluate the applications of artificial intelligence in critical areas such as disease prediction, diagnostic care, personalized treatment, and drug discovery.
However, this development is not without challenges; issues related to accuracy, interpretability of results, data privacy, and ethical considerations in the use of AI in medicine must be addressed.
The comprehensive assessment process at the facility will encompass several stages, including qualification verification, model review, safety assessment, medical scenario analysis, and ethical product review.
This approach will facilitate a realistic and thorough evaluation of how large medical models can be effectively applied within the health system.
Zhou Bowen, director and chief scientist of the Shanghai AI Laboratory, emphasized that the center will not only assess various artificial intelligence applications in the local health system but also ensure safe and efficient service.
It will also provide technical support for the intelligent development of healthcare.
In conjunction with the opening of the center, a partnership for innovation and collaborative application of large medical models was established in Shanghai.
This initiative seeks to encourage the development and innovative application of these models while exploring new ways in which artificial intelligence can transform healthcare.
With this initiative, China reaffirms its commitment to being at the technological forefront of the health sector, aiming not only to improve medical services but also to establish an ethical and safe framework for the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.
