Mao Ning emphasized that China has made its stance clear regarding these types of statements and reiterated that the country opposes any form of hacking attacks.

Additionally, the spokesperson mentioned that China opposes the spread of false information about Beijing for political purposes.

These comments come after the U.S. Department of the Treasury warned on Monday about a purported hacking operation allegedly sponsored by China, which reportedly accessed its systems to steal documents.

The hack was announced by BeyondTrust, an external software service provider, which claimed that “a threat actor” gained access to a key to reach certain workstations.

Although the Treasury has not provided details about the number of affected workstations or the type of documentation obtained, it assured that the compromised services have been disconnected.
