During a briefing by the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, the Chinese special envoy sanctioned the attack carried out by Israel against the Al-Taba’een school in Gaza City last weekend, where more than 100 Palestinians died.
He also stressed that «civilians and civilian infrastructure should not be the target of military operations», adding that «this is a red line under international humanitarian law».
«Attacking schools where large numbers of civilians are seeking refuge again and again is an atrocious act», he said.
In this regard, Fu Cong called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, as the population of Gaza demands it, while being the consensus of the international community.
The official stressed that the way to prevent deterioration and escalation is to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza without delay.
