“China will continue working with the international community to create favorable conditions for finding a political solution to this crisis,” Xi said during a meeting with Dmitry Medvedev, vice chairman of Russia’s Security Council, who is visiting Beijing in his capacity as the chairman of the United Russia party.

The Chinese leader emphasized that his country seeks to “ease the situation as soon as possible” and stressed that it would “not fan the flames of the European conflict,” highlighting that it “should not spread.”

He also indicated that China and Russia should “build consensus among all countries, especially in the Global South,” and “maintain close communication and coordination within organizations such as the United Nations, BRICS, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to promote the development of the international order in a more just and reasonable direction.”

Regarding bilateral relations, Xi stressed that the two countries must “strengthen the alignment of their respective development strategies by leveraging the momentum of bilateral cooperation.” According to Xi, in the 75 years since diplomatic relations were established, the two countries have “worked together” to embark on “a new path based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and cooperation.”

“We have set an example of what relations between major countries and neighbors should be. We must strengthen communication and cooperation, practicing genuine multilateralism to jointly ensure global strategic stability and international fairness and justice,” he noted.

For his part, Medvedev stated that Russia is “ready to actively promote a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.” He delivered a letter to Xi signed by President Vladimir Putin, in which Putin expressed that the high-level cooperation between Russia and China “is the result of the leadership” of the leaders of both countries.

“Russia will unwaveringly implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state and promote cooperation,” said Medvedev, who has been in Beijing since yesterday. His visit takes place amid accusations from the West against China, which it blames for supplying weapons to Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, a claim Beijing has repeatedly denied.
