Heavy clashes broke out overnight between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syria’s General Security Directorate in northeastern Aleppo, according to a report by Sham FM radio.

The fighting erupted late Monday into early Tuesday near Tishrin Dam, on the outskirts of Manbij, a key city northeast of Aleppo. Simultaneously, Syrian government forces launched attacks on SDF positions south of Kobane, the report said.

“There are confirmed casualties among SDF fighters as a result of clashes in both areas,” Sham FM reported.

Tensions Escalate in Northern Syria

The SDF, a Kurdish-Arab militia alliance, includes the People’s Protection Units (YPG)—which Turkey designates as a terrorist group—and enjoys U.S. military support. The SDF currently controls most of Al-Hasakah and Raqqa provinces, along with parts of Aleppo and Deir Ezzor.

Following the shift in Syria’s power balance, the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) launched a military campaign against Kurdish units in northern Aleppo, particularly near Manbij and Kobane.

As tensions escalate, northern Syria remains a volatile battlefield where various factions, including the Syrian government, Kurdish forces, and Turkish-backed militias, vie for control.
