In the Zócalo of Mexico City, where governors, federal officials, legislators, entrepreneurs, representatives of indigenous peoples and thousands of supporters met, the President thanked everyone for their presence in this “beautiful assembly” from a pavilion next to the National Palace, a place where “we have met so many times.”

“We are not going to return the regime of corruption and privilege, we will not let the decay of the past where it was ruled for a few” said Sheinbaum.

The president stated that in the first months of this six-year term, her government defended the constitutional reform of the judiciary power, which emphasizes the fight against corruption and nepotism, Among other measures, the Law on Judicial Careers is established and gender parity and human rights are promoted, including attention to indigenous languages, They seek to democratise access to justice and ensure that it becomes a universal right for all citizens.

“There is no doubt that the judiciary will be autonomous. If the goal had been for the president to control the Supreme Court, we would have made a Zedillo-style reform,” referring to reforms by former Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo that were implemented in the 1990s, especially in the judicial system, that they failed to improve the socio-economic situation of the country and that some of them benefited certain economic sectors more than the general population.

Regarding the recent reform of the Judiciary, it is considered that June 1 will be recorded in the history of Mexico, “because for the first time judges, female judges, magistrates, female magistrates, ministers, and female ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation will be elected democratically… yes, democratically.”

Sheinbaum pointed out that in this first phase of his management, the year 2024 closed with a record for formal employment for a month of December, with 22 million 238 thousand jobs, and the highest average wage level ever, with controlled inflation and a real increase in the minimum wage.

The president also highlighted that the level of unemployment is among the lowest in the world, gasoline and diesel did not increase in real terms; without increasing taxes, tax revenues reached 4.9 million pesos.

According to the head of state, in the last months of 2024, she visited all 32 entities of the Republic, traveled by land and sea 32,499 km and met with the 32 state governments. “The basis of this project was laid by Andrés Manuel López Obrador and, for us, it is time to consolidate, add up and move forward with the second floor”, she explained.

After assuring that housing is a right of the people of Mexico, Sheinbaum reported that at least 125,000 new homes will be built by 2025. He also recalled the reform of the Infonavit law, so that there is an honest and transparent exercise in granting credits.
