Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum participated in the IX Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), emphasizing the need for a Latin American unity agenda that rejects economic blockades and proposes a summit focused on the region’s economic welfare.

Despite her brief remarks due to national commitments, Sheinbaum issued a strong call for solidarity among Latin American nations amid growing disparities in international trade.

During her speech, the Mexican leader firmly opposed coercive measures imposed on countries like Cuba and Venezuela, arguing that such blockades exacerbate inequality and hinder regional peace. “We reject sanctions that harm our peoples,” she stated, reaffirming Mexico’s foreign policy principle of self-determination.

Sheinbaum proposed creating a Regional Economic Well-Being Summit, stressing that geographic proximity among Latin American nations should translate into effective cooperation in critical areas like education, clean energy, and social justice. “No country should be left behind,” she emphasized, positioning CELAC as a platform for shared prosperity rooted in equity.

She also linked her participation to the achievements of Mexico’s Fourth Transformation, highlighting Mexican humanism as part of a rich legacy of historical struggles and ancestral wisdom that inspires her integrative vision.

Sheinbaum concluded by thanking Honduran President Xiomara Castro for the invitation, reinforcing Mexico-Honduras ties and exemplifying CELAC’s solidarity-driven diplomacy. Her message resonated as a call for collective action to address Latin America’s challenges in today’s global context.
