Colombia “regrets and condemns Israel’s unilateral actions, specifically the indiscriminate bombings in violation of the ceasefire that continue to cause the deaths of Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip, as well as military operations in the West Bank,” the Colombian Foreign Affairs Ministry stated.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Israeli occupation forces resumed their operations against Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip. This new Zionist offensive marks a breach of the ceasefire with the Islamist group Hamas, which had been maintained for two months.
“We urge all parties to uphold the ceasefire and resume the initial agreement that would allow for the release of the kidnapped Israelis, as well as Palestinian political prisoners, while also considering a long-term dialogue process,” Colombian diplomacy stated.
The Colombian government “will continue to support, in international forums, actions leading to the administration of justice for those responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, as stipulated by international law and in accordance with the values of the United Nations system.”
Finally, the government of President Gustavo Petro affirmed that “the only formula for lasting peace in the Middle East is a negotiated solution involving two fully sovereign states.”
Since the beginning of Israel’s offensive against Gaza in 2023, Colombia has maintained a highly critical stance toward Israel, leading to a break in diplomatic relations in May 2024.
