Colombia: International Festival of Living Arts Kicks off in Bogotá

On Friday, the International Festival of Living Arts FIAV is set to begin today in Bogotá with the presence of more than 400 artists of various forms of performing arts and cultural expressions from 14 countries from all continents.

The central Plaza de Bolívar will be the stage for the opening day with the play ‘Pedaling towards the sky’, from Belgium, according to information released by the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge.

The source added that the Guest of Honor National Region will be the Colombian Pacific, from where creators will arrive with ancestral stories, songs, dances, plays and contemporary dance.

‘We will see the Pacific region as never before, as we have witnessed the strong explosion of its music and dance, but this time we are going to look at what is happening in this territory through its theatre,’ said the event’s director Fabio Rubiano.

Likewise, the Guest International Region will be the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, where seven of the shows to be presented will come from, to which will also be added one from the state of Sao Paulo.

The participation of the International Guest of Honor Region includes the concert by the singer-songwriters Paulinho Moska and Mart’nália, the theatre plays ‘Caranguejo overdrive’, ‘Sísifo’, ‘Os bruzundangas’, and ‘Sueño’; and the street performances ‘Brasil, de verso e prosa’ and ‘AtoTÔ!

In total, the participating artists will offer 28 shows that touch on themes such as peace, ecology, respect for all species, tolerance, the empowerment of women and the recognition of others in their differences, the press release added.

In addition to the more than 100 performances planned, there will also be a full schedule of talks, seminars, workshops, exhibitions and tributes.

The International Festival of Living Arts FIAV will culminate on 14 October with the presentation in Plaza Bolívar of the work ‘Giant Dolls’ by the aerial drummers of Transe Express, from France.
