The camp was hidden in the Amazon, between the locality of Soplín Vargas (Peru) and Puerto Nariño (Colombia), and had facilities for the manufacture of explosives, “which represented a threat to security on the Colombo-Peruvian border”, the Navy noted in a statement.

The operation, carried out with the Peruvian National Police, found materials for the manufacture of improvised explosives, including 11 mortars, more than 600 grenades, 200 boxes of TNT, 300 land-mine explosives, 1,000 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, among other artifacts.

Nine laboratories used to process cocaine were destroyed, containing 7,580 tons of cocaine sulphate, 32,385 tons of chemical inputs and three firearms were confiscated.

“With this operation, the Navy avoided the entry of more than three million dollars into the finances of criminal organizations, drastically weakening their criminal capacity in the region,” the Navy said.

The Border Command is a group that operates on the southern border of Colombia, penetrating into Ecuador and Peru, almost exclusively engaged in illicit activities such as drug trafficking.

They have shown their alignment with the Second Marquetalia, led by the FARC’s ex-negotiator of the Havana peace agreement, ‘Iván Márquez’, a group that is currently at a new negotiating table with the Colombian government, Has a bilateral ceasefire in place.
