The Colombian army dismantled a warehouse that allegedly belonged to a front of the Central General Staff (EMC), where this dissident FARC group kept 3.7 tons of explosive devices, including anti-personnel mines and gunpowder.

In this cache, located in the municipality of Los Andes Sotomayor, in the department of Nariño (southwest), there were 280 anti-personnel mines, 20 cylinders of explosives, 260 self-made munitions, commonly known as ‘tatucos’; 240 self-made mortar shells and 300 kilograms of black powder.

Three bracelets belonging to the Jacobo Arenas Western Bloc, Franco Benavides Structure, which belongs to the EMC commanded by Nestor Gregorio Vera, alias ‘Iván Mordisco’, were also discovered.

According to the Army, this is “one of the largest centers for the collection of explosives in Nariño”, and one of the explosives found “could have a range of more than 500 meters, which can generate a crater between 1.5 and 3.5 meters in diameter”.

“Its use would be intended to attack the public forces and also communities, being a great risk for their integrity due to the large scope of these elements,” the Army added in a statement on Monday.

In late August, the Army and Police dismantled a large complex that the EMC dissidents used to manufacture explosives, where they found more than 800 grenades to be dropped from drones in terrorist actions in the department of Cauca.
