ALBA-TCP Secretary Arreaza condemned belligerent statements by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

On Sunday, Jorge Arreaza, the secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA–TCP), rejected the call by former Colombian President Alvaro Uribe for military intervention in Venezuela.

Cuba Rejects Far-Right Call for ‘International Intervention’ in Venezuela

“If a national leader in Venezuela were to call for a military intervention against any country, the institutions would act immediately. It is a serious crime. Furthermore, when it concerns a neighboring country, it endangers the peace and stability of Colombia itself,” he said.

Previously, after the inauguration of President Nicolas Maduro on January 10, the far-right Colombian politician made statements against the Venezuelan constitutional order during a political rally.

“What we advocate for is an international military intervention with the Venezuelan army to remove the dictatorship,” Uribe said in Cucuta. This, however, is not the first time the former Colombian president has engaged in interference against Venezuela’s sovereignty and people. The Venezuelan response was swift.

President Maduro addressed Alvaro Uribe’s remarks, describing him as a far-right figure linked to criminal activities by the justice system of his own country.

“A sad paramilitary and drug-trafficking figure. Murderer and criminal. Coward, come lead the troops yourself! I will be waiting for you on the battlefield, face to face. Don’t send others. Down with Uribe! Down with fascism! Long live the people!” the Bolivarian leader said.

“Venezuela is preparing, along with Cuba, Nicaragua, and our elder brothers in the world, so that if one day we must take up arms to defend the right to peace, the right to sovereignty, and the historical rights of our homeland,” Maduro stated during the closing of the International Anti-Fascist World Festival.
