As a result of her leadership, this institution currently has 24 programs aimed at closing gaps and guaranteeing rights.
On Thursday, Colombian Vice President Francia Marquez resigned from her position as Minister of Equality and Equity, denouncing threats against her and her family.

Her resignation from this position also occurs in the context of a crisis in President Gustavo Petro’s cabinet, which was caused by the appointment of Armando Benedetti as head of the presidential office. Marquez and other ministers strongly question this appointment due to his far-right background.
“I joined this government to work for equality, equity, and social justice. I did not come for bureaucracy, politicking, or the interests that have hindered true change,” the Colombian Vice President stated in her resignation letter.
“From day one, I took on the challenge of building an institution that existed only on paper. I did so with conviction and the hope of changing the lives of millions. However, when commitment is not accompanied by the necessary tools, the path becomes more difficult,” she added.
“Loyalty is not about staying silent; loyalty is about speaking up when the course strays from the right path and from the people. Do not misunderstand me—my commitment to the people remains intact. When I point out what I believe is wrong within our government, I do not do it to destroy but rather to build a stronger and more honest path,” Marquez emphasized.
“Denouncing corruption and pointing out wrongdoing has consequences. I have not been attacked with arguments but with threats against my life and my family. Even so, they will not silence me. I will not give up because the change we promised will not be stopped by fear.”
“My commitment to Colombia does not depend on being inside or outside a ministry. I will continue working for the people and will not stop until equality and equity reach every corner of Colombia,” she concluded.
As a result of Marquez’s leadership, the Ministry of Equality and Equity currently has 24 programs aimed at closing gaps and guaranteeing rights, with over 15,800 young people participating in the Youth in Peace program, 19,000 cases of gender-based violence addressed, and the Zero Hunger program delivering over 50,000 tons of food to the most vulnerable areas.
