Countries of Latin America Reports Emergency Situations with Forest Fires

Brazil reported that more than 11 million people are in emergency from forest fires.

Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and Peru report an emergency situation this Thursday due to multiple forest fires that impact millions of inhabitants.

The National Confederation of Municipalities of Brazil reported that at least 11,000,000 inhabitants are affected by forest fires this year.

This year, 538 cities have declared an emergency due to forest fires, compared with only 23 last year.

Given the situation, the Government of the South American country will meet with governors and deputy governors in Brasilia (capital) to discuss actions to combat disasters, in the context of the worst drought in the last 70 years.

In addition to the drought and forest fires of this time of year, there is also the influence of human action. In this regard, the Federal Police is investigating 50 people accused of committing criminal acts of forest fires.

The US National Administration of Oceans and Atmosphere reported that smoke from Brazil with forest fires reached the south of the continent. At this time, at least 14 more states in the Federal District are showing worrying air quality.

The Bolivian government is negotiating an aircraft to help quell the casualties, while firefighters from several nations in the region are fighting the mega-fire that is raging in the country.

In Santa Cruz, 11 complex fires are reported, the result of several that joined together. Experts from Brazil and Venezuela help to deal with the fires.

As a result of the smoke, at least 10 Bolivian airports have been closed and face-to-face classes are being suspended in several regions of the country.

In this regard, it was reported that in Paraguay, in the area of Cerro Chovoreca, almost 200,000 hectares of forest were destroyed by heat intentionally burned grazing land that got out of control due to drought and climatic conditions in the area.

The Peruvian government has also declared a state of emergency because of the heat waves that are hitting the various departments of the nation, where at least 19,000 hectares have been destroyed and 97 fires are active in the Amazon region.
