Thousands of Cubans, led by the island’s government, joined on Friday to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, an event marked by condemnation of the Israeli army’s invasion of the Gaza Strip. Official activities were held in several cities across the country, with a central event in Havana.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel participated in an event in the province of Sancti Spíritus, where he was accompanied by local authorities and members of the Communist Party (PCC).
President Díaz-Canel used his X social media account to make an urgent call for the cessation of “genocide in Gaza.” In his message, he emphasized that “every moment of inaction will cost more innocent lives” and urged the international community to “act immediately.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also spoke on the same platform, reiterating the need for an “unequivocal condemnation of the genocide committed by Israel” and reaffirming Cuba’s solidarity with the struggle for a free Palestine.
During the main event in Havana, which included an emotional cantata at the Cuba Pavilion, Rodríguez highlighted the importance of the anniversary, which recalls the adoption of UN Resolution 181 in 1947, proposing the creation of two states.
Since the beginning of the current conflict, the Cuban government has been vocal in its condemnation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, accusing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his administration of perpetrating “war crimes” against the Palestinian population. They have also expressed concern about Israeli attacks on other countries such as Iran and Lebanon.
The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is celebrated every November 29, commemorating a key moment in the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict and reaffirming global commitment to peace and justice in the region.
The commemoration in Cuba highlights not only support for Palestine but also a rejection of aggressive policies that perpetuate human suffering.
