Cuba Gets Ready to Generate Electricity With Fuel

After the morning of October 18, Cuba’s national electrical system experienced a total disconnection. By three in the afternoon, progress was being made toward the gradual restoration of the National Electric System, as reported by Engineer Lazaro Guerra Hernandez from the headquarters of the Electric Union.

“From the moment Guiteras went offline, the restoration process began. Energy is already being distributed to the Central Termoeléctrica of Santa Cruz del Norte, and a motor will be started in the floating power plant of Mariel—toward which fuel is currently being directed—to supply energy to the CTE in this territory.”

He added that alternatives are being sought to provide energy to the Nuevitas unit, while in Santiago de Cuba, energy from the floating power plant will be sent to the thermoelectric plant in Renté. “Some work will be necessary to make two units operational.”

“The microsystems generate energy and will gradually provide power. This is a process that must be approached calmly to avoid setbacks; we need to move forward with firm steps in the restoration process and not backward due to failures in some microsystems.”

He concluded by stating, “All personnel involved are qualified to perform this restoration, and efforts are being made to successfully complete this process.”
